| Believer\'s Bible Commentary |
| by William MacDonald was voted for by the following 7 people: |
| Jack Hay (Scotland) | The following have been of help to me, and I recommend them for young believers, without necessarily endorsing everything contained in them. I have divided my selection into sections, to encourage a breadth of reading. Like other contributors, I acknowledge my reliance on help from Strong’s Concordance and Vine’s New Testament Words etc. without adding these to my list.
SINGLE VOLUME COMMENTARY: This book is very helpful, particularly the New Testament section. As with similar volumes, it suffers from restricted space in the Old Testament section. Mr. MacDonald is a very lucid communicator, and for a simple mind like mine, his ability to make difficult things understandable is a major plus factor. |
| William Burnett (Canada) | An indispensable help to Bible Students of all ages, and of particular help to the young student. The book is written in language easy to be understood, yet is not lacking in the depth that one would expect from such a work. A scholarly classic. |
| Daniel Rudge (England) | This commentary is a must have for every young believer. I will often consult this commentary before anything else when studying a particular passage/book. Mr MacDonald has the ability to state “some things hard to be understood” in simple, plain English which is good for simple, plain people like me! The commentary is particularly helpful in the epistles, but does not cover the Old Testament in a lot of detail. |
| Ian Affleck (Scotland) | One that provides a sound insight into most passages. |
| Richard Catchpole (England) | This book has the advantage of embracing in a single volume a basically sound and helpful commentary on every chapter of the Bible. For those whose finances might be limited and are just commencing to study the Bible or build a library this book will prove to be a most valuable study tool. |
| Roy Hill (England) | |
| Alastair Sinclair (Scotland) | This would be most useful to young believers as it is relatively modern and very sound. It gives a good initial exposition for all the scriptures which can then be supplemented with deeper study. |
